Irine Odera
Research Scientist
Irine is a soil scientist, agronomist, and agroecology researcher whose work connects soil health, sustainable agriculture, climate change, and ecosystem restoration. She is particularly interested in understanding how soil processes, agricultural practices, and ecological systems interact to influence productivity, environmental health, and resilience.
Irine holds a Master of Science in Soil Science from the University of Eldoret, Kenya, where her research examined greenhouse gas emissions, soil physicochemical properties, and nutrient-use efficiency under inorganic-organic fertilizer substitutions in Maize and Desmodium cropping systems. Her academic work has given her a strong foundation in soil biogeochemistry, nutrient cycling, agricultural greenhouse gases, and soil-plant interactions, while strengthening her interest in practical approaches to sustainable agricultural management.
Irine joins the Asili-Sensa team as an Agronomist/Ecologist based at CERK and in collaboration with Earth Rover Program, bringing together her expertise in soils, agronomy, and agricultural systems to support field experimentation, soil and crop assessment, ecological monitoring, and sustainable land management. Through this work, she seeks to contribute to approaches that are both scientifically grounded and practical, helping build healthier soils, more resilient agricultural systems, and functioning ecosystems.
